17th July 2020
Dear Parish Family,
We are all very much aware of the impact in every community on our planet of the coronavirus.
We live in profoundly unsettling times, however, I believe that this will be a time when God will inspire and guide us as we express His love and proclaim His Name.
Two psalms I love and rely upon in times of trouble are Psalm 23 (our Psalm for this Sunday) and Psalm 91 –
You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust." (Psalms 91:1-2)
A prayer I have found helpful –
Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support all those who are anxious and fearful, and lift up all who are ill or feeling low;
We are not people of fear: we are people of courage. May we rejoice in your peace knowing that nothing can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We are not people who protect our own safety: we are people who protect our neighbours’ safety.
Bless and protect all doctors, nurses, medical workers, ambulance officers and paramedics at this time.We are not people of greed: we are people of generosity. May we set an example to those who are tempted to be selfish.
We are your people God, giving and loving, wherever we are, whatever it costs, for as long as it takes and wherever you call us. Amen.
So often we are strengthened by offering help and encouragement to others, so, mindful of those who may be self-isolating, where you can, I encourage you to reach out via phone or email to your neighbours and loved ones and be ready to support each other.
God has promised to be our companion through dark valleys and troubling times. Know that he is near you and sustaining you.
Don’t hesitate to call me if you need to, with every blessing,
Rev’d Mandy
